Last month the Government unveiled new rules that require all companies with 250+ employees to publicly display their gender pay gap online. This compulsory reporting will come in to effect in 2018 as it is believed it will result in a reduction in bias and greater transparency in decision-making, not only in pay but in recruitment, performance appraisals and promotion decisions.

Typically, if you were to ask business women whether they should have the right to equality within the workplace, you will be met by a resonant ‘Yes’. However, if you were to ask the women questions about whether they’d feel empowered enough to ask senior members of staff for a promotion, a pay rise, or at least equal pay to their male counterparts, there is suddenly a dip in confidence.

With this in mind, we are actively seeking to build confidence in female employees and close the gender gap in what has traditionally been a male dominated industry. In the business’ efforts to do so, we were happy to attend Barclays’ Women in Business Seminar and Networking event for female business students at The University of Greenwich. On 23rd February, a number of representatives in varied roles at Agilico attended the event to mark the recent launch of our Graduate Scheme.

The first http://humanrightsfilmnetwork.org/cymbalta hour of the half-day event was a short presentation made by a female graduate on Barclays’ Graduate Scheme, shortly followed by a panel Q & A session. The presentation taught the students techniques for group assessment days within graduate scheme recruitment processes. Additional focus was on women in managerial and directorship roles, and the obstacles such as the anxieties and preconceptions that historically have prevented women from reaching their potential. Throughout the presentation, there was particular reference to Sheryl Sandberg’s book Lean In Women, Work and the Will to Lead.

The Q & A panel consisted of a number of female staff from Barclays including senior staff members and those enrolled on the bank’s graduate scheme. The panel was also joined by Managing Director of Electrosonic Limited, Sarah Joyce.

The networking session took place in the latter part of the afternoon, this gave our staff the chance to meet with young and aspiring businesswomen soon to be applying to Graduate Schemes. This was a perfect opportunity for DMC Canotec to promote their new scheme and exchange details with those students who stood out from the crowd.
