About The Angel Hotel

The Angel, a former coaching inn whose story stretches back to the Middle Ages, is a fascinating timber-framed building in the centre of Guildford’s Historic High Street. The oldest part of the hotel is the stone vaulted undercroft that dates back to the 1300s.

Challenges

As a satisfied Agilico managed print customer, The Angel also wanted to simplify their digital services. With IT and connectivity all coming from different suppliers, they felt they weren’t receiving true value for money.

In addition, the hotel struggled with poor WiFi coverage across its historic listed building, leaving many areas without a reliable connection. Their outdated email server and ageing IT infrastructure also presented security risks and administrative challenges.

Agilico carried out a full review of the hotel’s needs, delivering a tailored IT and connectivity package that brought all services under one roof.

  • WiFi Upgrade: A new PoE switch and three WiFi access points were installed, meaning guests can now enjoy a strong and reliable connection throughout the entire property. Our engineers worked carefully around the challenges of a listed building, routing cables through existing spaces, repairing faulty wiring and using shielded cabling for outdoor areas.
  • Modern IT Infrastructure: Agilico created an MS365 tenancy, migrated emails from the outdated server, and implemented antivirus, mail filtering and backup tools. This not only improved security but also simplified administration, giving staff the flexibility to set up shared mailboxes at no extra cost.
  • Futureproofing Devices: With Microsoft phasing out Windows 10 support, we carried out a full audit of the hotel’s devices and provided a clear report highlighting which systems require upgrades.
